Winter is winding down and we’re all thinking ahead to spring and summer. Ah, spring and summer – the days are longer, the sun is shining and there’s an iced coffee in all of our hands. The change of the weather also has me – and perhaps you too – thinking about updating my wardrobe with all the spring and summer fashion trends. Before you shop for the new season, here is a snapshot of the hottest trends fresh off the runway forecasted to take Spring/Summer 2018 (S/S18) by storm.

Even though the Pantone Color Institute declared Ultra Violet the color of the year, the color that seemed to dominate all four major runways for S/S18 was the soft purple lavender hue. It definitely will be the “it” color for this season, as well as all the soft pastels colors. Think macaroons. As Victoria Beckham points out, “Delicacy can be strong.”

Logo Mania

Logos are back! If you’re going to spend a lot of money for a T-shirt, then, yes, pair it with a pencil skirt and go out to dinner in it. For instance, Gucci has taken the logo to the next level. Even brands that did not rely on their logos are starting to get their name in the game.

Fringe Benefit

This is a huge trend that you will see everywhere. Inspired by western wear, this trend is by no means western at all. From tassels to raw fabric, this fun embellishment can be added to any ensemble. It’s fun and playful to wear. If wearing it on a dress seems a bit overpowering, try it on accent pieces, such as your earrings, a handbag or a jacket. Designers from Calvin Klein to Dior all rocked the fringe for S/S18.

Fanny Pack

Who would have thought the fanny pack would make a come back? Hey, it’s practical. With the way designers have put their spin on it, it’s now most definitely fashionable. Whether you have a hectic lifestyle, kids in tow, are walking your dog or just holding a cup of coffee, the fanny pack is an essential. It’s not just for tourists anymore. Wear it around your waist or on the diagonal and you will be super chic this S/S18.

‘Dad’ Sneakers

This look isn’t for street styles anymore or for your dad, for that sake. What’s not to love about this trend? It’s super comfy and, yes, stylish. They work well with mid-length skirts, cropped jeans and even silk slip dresses. There are so many cute styles, colors and textures to choose from that you will want an array of them to wear with your wardrobe.

Day Glam

Day glam is no longer reserved for the holiday season. Sequin gowns to the smallest embellishments, sequin will be your S/S18 go-to statement pieces. For daytime glam, you will find sequins in a subtler way on tank tops to khakis.

Anything sheer from mesh fabric to PVC will be all the rage. Don’t be afraid to show some skin – no hiding your bra or briefs this season. When trying to add PVC into your wardrobe, try a raincoat or invest in a pair of Chanels PVC boots. Transparency is definitely a huge trend for S/S18.

There you have it, a snapshot of what this Spring/Summer of 2018 will be like when it comes to this year’s fashion trends. As I have pointed out before, you don’t have to spend a lot of money nor do you need to too. Pick and choose what trends you will give you the most bang for your buck. The key is to feel fabulous and look fashionable. Do not compromise comfort over style! Have fun and happy spring shopping.
